I am seriously against organizing an event and then owing people money from it. It does not make sense because even if the intention is to do dakwah, if you end up in debt, that's not good. Either the planning was not done properly or there has been serious miscommunication.

A true Da'i, as we have seen, do not burden the organizer. In fact, we have recently seen some very humble, true da'i, alhamdulillah. Allah swt has provided us Help in ways we cannot imagine and has chosen the ones who came. But there are some other people who burden the organizers beyond what they can afford. At the end of the day, we are trying to do good but if we cannot afford it, we have to abandon it. That is the bottom line - if you're too expensive, then your da'wah is not meant to reach our shores. Nowadays, to organize da'wah events you need a substantial amount of money.
